Mother's Day is a relatively modern festival. It was proposed by a loving and filial daughter named Anna Jarvis, who was from Philadelphia, USA. Her mother passed away on May 9th, 1905, and to commemorate her, Anna organized a large funeral. Her mother had a special fondness for carnations, so she placed 500 white carnations as the final gift to her mother during the funeral. Afterwards, she suggested that the second Sunday of May be designated as "Mother's Day." That's how the tradition of Mother's Day and giving carnations to mothers originated.
